In the middle of the food forest

Acacia stands in the middle of the food forest of 't Hazelbos: one and a half hectares of edible trees, shrubs and plants. Depending on the season you pick apples, pears, berries, herbs or nuts straight from the branch. In spring the fruit trees blossom, in summer you enjoy the lush green surroundings, in autumn you harvest what the forest gives, and in winter you take in the bare beauty and the silence.

The grounds border the hedgerow landscape of the Achterhoek, one of the quietest regions of the Netherlands. Wooded banks, winding brooks and open farmland set the scene. From 't Hazelbos you can walk and cycle straight into the countryside around Zelhem. The Slangenburg estate, the hills of Montferland and the river IJssel are a short drive away.

If you want to venture further: Doetinchem and Zutphen offer lively town centres with terraces, shops and culture. But most guests come here precisely because there is nowhere they need to be. Just being outside, hearing the birds, and seeing the stars at night. That is the Achterhoek at its best.

What guests say

"What a little gem. From the moment we arrived, with wild flowers and fresh apple juice as a welcome, we could tell how much thought has gone into this place. The people behind this cabin are warm and attentive, and make you feel welcome right away."

Vera, via Airbnb, May 2026

"As the sun went down we gathered in the fire pit, baking rolls and marshmallows over a crackling fire. The setting sun made way for an incredible starry sky! We would recommend 't Hazelbos to anyone."

Roel, via Google, May 2026

"The cabin sits in a wonderfully quiet spot on the owners' land. The food forest is beautifully laid out. Our children loved helping to water the plants in the greenhouses."

Femke, via Natuurhuisje, May 2026

"Truly a lovely cabin in an idyllic spot! Lovingly built by the owners with sustainable materials. At the risk of making it harder for ourselves to book it again, we wholeheartedly recommend this place!"

Laura, via Google, May 2026

"The cabin has a beautiful modern interior, really comfortable beds and every convenience. This is a true hidden gem in the Achterhoek."

Nadia, via Google, June 2026

"A beautiful nature cabin in a food forest! There is plenty of privacy, plenty of birds, and you can wander through the food forest. In the evening you watch the sun set from the terrace, and at dusk you hear the little owl that lives in a nest box in the orchard."
